Philippines Itinerary Hub: 7, 10 & 14-Day Routes

Philippines Itinerary Hub: 7, 10 & 14-Day Routes

A no-nonsense guide to planning your Philippines trip, whether you have one week, ten days, or two full weeks to work with.

People email me constantly asking how to plan a Philippines travel itinerary, usually because they've already fallen into the trap of trying to do fifteen islands in eight days. I get it. The Philippines has over 7,000 islands and every travel blog makes it look like you can hit five regions in a week if you just wake up early enough. You can't. Not well, anyway.

I split my time between the US and Baguio now, and every year I help family members and friends visiting from abroad build out their routes. The mistakes are almost always the same: too many flights, not enough buffer time, and a route that looks efficient on a map but falls apart the moment a ferry gets cancelled or a flight gets delayed by weather, which happens often in this country. So this is less a listicle and more a judgment call on what actually works for 7, 10, and 14 days, based on what I've seen go right and wrong.

What's the Best Philippines Itinerary for 7, 10, or 14 Days?

The honest answer depends entirely on how much travel time you're willing to burn versus time actually spent somewhere. A good philippines travel itinerary is not the one that covers the most ground. It's the one that leaves you rested enough to actually enjoy where you are.

Here's my ranked take, and I'll explain the reasoning for each:

7 Days: Pick One Region, Not a Tour

With a philippines itinerary 7 days long, you have time for one region done properly, or two if they're close together and connected by a short flight. My recommendation, in order of preference:

  1. Palawan (El Nido or Coron), 5 nights, plus 2 nights in Manila as buffer. This is the move for most first-timers with a week. You get island hopping, dramatic limestone cliffs, and you're not losing days to inter-island ferries.
  2. Cebu and Bohol combined, 3 nights each. Works because the ferry between them is under two hours. Good for people who want beaches plus a bit of history and the Chocolate Hills.
  3. Manila and Baguio, 3-4 nights each. This is the underrated one. Skip it if beaches are your entire reason for coming. Take it if you want cool weather, mountain scenery, and a completely different side of the country that most first-time visitors never see.

What I recommend against for a 7-day trip: trying to combine Palawan and Cebu, or Palawan and Baguio, in the same week. I've watched people attempt this and spend two of their seven days sitting in airports. The connecting flights are rarely direct, and Philippine domestic carriers are not known for punctuality. Save the multi-region trip for when you have 10+ days.

10 Days: Two Regions, One Real Contrast

A philippines itinerary 10 days long is the sweet spot for combining beach and mountain, or beach and city culture, without feeling rushed. My ranked recommendation:

  1. Manila (2 nights) + Baguio/La Trinidad (3 nights) + Palawan (5 nights). This is the itinerary I point most balikbayan families toward, especially if kids or grandparents are part of the trip. You land in Manila, decompress, head up to the mountains where it's cool and slower, then fly out to Palawan for the beach finale.
  2. Cebu (4 nights) + Siargao (4 nights) + Manila (2 nights). Better for surfers or people in their 20s and 30s who want a livelier pace. Siargao's infrastructure has improved a lot in the last five years but it's still not built for families with small kids or anyone with mobility issues.
  3. Manila + Bohol + Cebu, roughly 3-3-3. Solid, safe, a little predictable. I'd only recommend this if you specifically want the Chocolate Hills and tarsiers on your list.

What I'd skip: trying to squeeze in a third beach destination on top of two others. Beach fatigue is real, and after your second island, the third one starts to feel like the first one with worse wifi.
